![]() You get three predefined color modes with no available settings options, plus one User mode with options to adjust contrast, brightness, color saturation, and sharpness. The menu options for the V700W offer only limited ability to adjust image quality. Image Quality and Brightness: Better Than Expected for the Money But if you're willing to do it, you'll find it's actually easy. As I noted when I reviewed the PJ20, if you're not comfortable with the thought of messing around with the innards of your projector, you might find the idea of cleaning the LCD intimidating. However, you can find them on Vankyo's website, and the company says it's planning to add the information to the kit. Unlike NexiGo, Vankyo didn't supply instructions with the kit that came with the review unit. As with the PJ20, it comes with a cleaning kit (rubbing alcohol not included) for removing any specks that show up. The V700W's design can potentially allow specks of dust into the projector where they can fall on the LCD, an issue the V700W shares with the PJ20. You can also use the projector as a Bluetooth speaker for other devices. ![]() Odds are you won't feel any need to connect an external sound system, but you can if you want to, using either Bluetooth or the 3.5mm audio out port. In my tests, it delivered good quality by any projector standards and high enough volume to fill a large family room. For wireless connections, there's support for DLNA and Windows Cast, as well as for mirroring Android and iOS phones and tablets.Īs a particularly nice touch, the onboard surround sound audio, built around dual 5-watt speakers and Dolby Digital Plus, is impressive for an inexpensive projector. In theory, it can make focusing over the entire screen difficult, but the lens has sufficient depth of field that even at the most extreme keystone setting, the entire image remained nicely focused in my tests.Ĭonnectors are all on the rear panel, and include two HDMI 1.4 ports plus two USB Type-A ports, which let you power a streaming dongle plugged into an HDMI port or read files from a USB memory key. This has the advantage over digital keystone adjustments of still using the full LCD, so it doesn't affect brightness or add artifacts. Instead, you get a thumbwheel that changes the angle of an internal mirror to adjust vertical keystone optically by plus or minus 15 degrees. Unlike most projectors, the V700W lacks digital keystone correction. I found it easy to adjust with precision using the remote, and it gave me an acceptably sharp image for the resolution and price. Vankyo also earns kudos for the powered manual focus. However, that's expected in this price range, and is typical even with much costlier room-to-room portables. There's no zoom, so adjusting image size requires moving the actual projector body. Simply connect the power cord and a video source, point the lens at whatever you're using for a screen, then adjust image size and focus. Still, it's small enough for fast and easy setup, as is typical for the price class. The 700W is bigger than a mini projector, at 3.7 by 11.4 by 8.7 inches (HWD), and weighs 4.9 pounds. Putting all the primary colors on screen at once, instead of one at a time as with DLP models, is what guarantees that bright areas can't break up into little rainbows when you move your eye or something moves on the screen. Paired with a white LED light source, rated at 30,000 hours, it delivers a 1,920-by-1,080 image to the screen. The LCD offers a 5,760-by-1,080 matrix with a red, green, or blue filter on each cell, to give it 1,920 (that's 5,760 divided by 3) by 1,080 sets of red-green-blue pixels. The slower the tire wears, the less swiftly and intensely the tire temperature will rise. On short runs, a 50% or more wedge will tighten you. Hackers found an entry point to the company's data not through its own servers, but those of Fazio Mechanical Services, a third-party vendor. IT Pro describes island hopping attacks as "the process of undermining a company's cyber defenses by going after its vulnerable partner network, rather than launching a direct attack." The source points to the high-profile data breach that rocked big-box retailer Target in 2017. Writing Parking Assisstant, a Prototype WhatsApp Chatbot (To be fair, there is also the risk that new features may limit functionality or create breaking changes that require more development effort, so think carefully before implementing business-critical tasks). Then I realized that every time a chat platform would introduce a new feature, my app would immediately benefit from it. The message would go out soon enough, when the user would go to an upper level where wifi was better. I didn’t need to add offline support using manifest files: WhatsApp gave it to me out of the box. No need for an authentication system-I was using the user’s phone number as identification. The chatbot was able to send messages to users without me needing to register devices, use PubSub or similar services for push notifications, or save user tokens. apk, no Xcode, no App Store, nor Google Play. If it is working in a chat emulator, it would work everywhere. Not only that, I no longer needed a complicated CI/CD process. It was so easy and fast to add new features, and I didn’t even need to do end-to-end testing. Immediately after I started developing the new parking assistant chatbot, I realized how fantastic the idea was. All I had to do was dig into how to make a WhatsApp chatbot. By using their resources and developing only a small engine for answering questions, that would leave the hard work of maintainability to chat platform developers. It’s important to remember that the developers of chat platforms like Telegram or WhatsApp had worked days and nights for years to ensure the stability of their apps. Drivers wanted to get push notifications if someone was blocking them, instead of opening the web app every time before leaving.Drivers wished to send messages to the blockers instead of opening the phone dialer. It didn’t work underground (where the parking is-there is no good mobile signal there). The app didn’t work well on some old mobile phones. ![]() I got some feedback on the regular web app, and I believed it might address it if I were to create a WhatsApp chatbot: Would users prefer to use chatbots? Would I need to give less support? Would it introduce any new meta-features simply by leveraging different infrastructure? I started to think that maybe the world was moving toward chatbots, so I should experiment. Around that time, I also started to see Google Assistant everywhere. The next day, my brother bought an Amazon Echo, featuring Alexa. One day, Facebook announced that they are going to release an API for WhatsApp. ![]() Less than one day of development helped and saved time for many people-a good investment. If they clicked on a registered slot, they would see the relevant contact details and could choose to call the driver. If they were already parked, it would take the data from the browser’s local storage. Users would see all parking spots and click on an empty one to fill in their details. The database was FireBase, so we had realtime support and JSON support, and no need for a back end. It was hosted by using GitHub’s free static page hosting. No webpack and no JS bundles at all! Just vanilla JavaScript. To make the process better, I created a web app. If so, they would have to call the other driver and hope that they were not in the middle of a meeting so they could go and move their car out of the way. Before leaving the office, a driver had to check whether anyone was blocking their car. ![]() All drivers marked where they were parking, and their names and phone numbers. From a Whiteboard to a Web Appīefore there was an app, there was a big board. In every double-parking space, the first driver parks inside, and the second parks outside. In this WhatsApp chatbot tutorial, I wanted to share my learning journey, best practices I discovered, and my predictions on the app vs. What would happen if I were to create a WhatsApp chatbot to solve the specific use case, instead of a web app? Would people like it better? Would it be more useful?īut the story is much bigger than that. Feedback on the web app prompted me to do an experiment. Long ago, I built a web app for an enterprise (200k+ employees). ![]() While our approach remains the same, it does mean the team is more dependent on gathering information in the simulator and as a result new circuits require a more extensive programme.įor a track that we've visited before, we'll typically dedicate a two-day programme in the build-up to the event, equating to around 450 laps and roughly eight race distances. It's an incredibly important part of our preparations and it's especially vital when visiting a new track, where you have little to no historic data. Why is the Driver in Loop simulator so important and does our approach change for new tracks? This allows us to run through set-up tweaks and changes to the car, as we would at the track, to see how it changes balance and performance. The simulator itself is designed to be as realistic as possible with the same chassis, cockpit, steering wheel and pedals as the car itself, and drivers will often run in full race kit to really immerse themselves in the experience.Ī significant amount of time is spent correlating the virtual model of the car to the car in the real world, so that the car can handle in the simulator just like it does out on track. The market for these highly complex track models is fairly small, so multiple teams will often base their simulations on the same track data and information. They are generated by lidar scanning, where laser imaging is used to create a 3D map of the entire circuit and all of its characteristics - from track surface to kerbs and even the environment around it.į1 teams also work with external simulation software such as rFpro to make the track environmentas realistic as possible, as visual cues are important for the drivers to determine braking points or the right moment to start turning the car. The track models that we use are highly detailed. How accurate is the Driver in Loop simulator? ![]() The value of these different virtual tools is critical for an F1 team, particularly when we've never raced at the track before. That means they can be sped up and run in parallel with other simulations to support both the vehicle dynamics and the strategy groups. However, in that same space of time we can log thousands of computer simulations as computer simulated laps can be done 100% virtually. In a typical DiL session, our race and simulator drivers can easily complete more than a full race distance. We use a bespoke simulator facility at the factory and the DiL is somewhat similar to a professional airplane simulator used for pilot training - with the obvious difference that our "cockpit" looks like an F1 car, not a flight deck. Driver-in-loop (DiL) is effectively our virtual test track, where our car and the tracks we race on are modelled in incredible detail, to enable us to develop the car, find the right set-up direction and help the drivers familiarise themselves with a track in a virtual environment. There are a few areas of simulation that F1 teams use to prepare for a Grand Prix weekend, but the two main ones are driver-in-loop and computer simulation. What types of simulation do F1 teams use? ![]() Though it wasn’t very heavily requested so far. But we left it like this because there were plans to make it work in a different way (through a repeat link). Unfortunately, the user interface is a bit confusing on this and should be grayed out. No recurrence.Ĭurrently, repeat doesn’t work from non-calendar notes. But once I completed that task, it just vanished. I got to the first July 1st, so far, so good. And I set it to repeat every year on July 1st. And in that document, I made a task called “do annual website audit”. I made a customer document, “XYZ Company”. I don’t recall exactly what it I tried Noteplan initially based on your suggestion, and this was where it broke down for me. The distinction between notes and daily notes is a little weird too. Repeating tasks has always been a shortcoming, as can be seen on their subreddit. I do like NotePlan, I continue to try to use it regularly, but I often find it’s just more fiddly than I’d like. You have to constantly peruse back through old daily notes to ensure you haven’t forgotten anything, or use plugins to close many gaps in things like repeating tasks, or reviewing all open tasks. It can quickly get into the weeds as you’ve noticed. You get tasks from emails sent to you, or meetings you have, or you have a list of regularly recurring things you have to check-in on for others, etc… I think this approach feels lacking. However if you’re more of a helper worker (what I’m dubbing it for now as I can’t think of anything better), meaning you receive your tasks from other people. If you are primarily a knowledge worker, or your own boss, by which I mean you are researching and looking stuff up on a regular basis, need to make mental notes of thoughts you are having throughout your day, or you are the one who sets up everything you are doing in a day, etc… I think this approach works well for that workflow. You live & breathe in the daily notes, and then offload things to regular notes as necessary. I think the way that the app/developer wants most people to work in NotePlan is a “daily notes first” approach. So am I missing something and doing Noteplan an injustice? ![]() I wanted to love Noteplan but while tasks may not be second class citizens repeating tasks certainly felt like they were. Yes i could move all repeating tasks to reminders but with 70+ clients this is very quickly going to get messy and probably negates at least 50% of the reason for using Noteplan in the first place. Noteplan does not have a way to automate this, and thats a pain and prone to error So i am left with using a plugin and basically writing Taskpaper syntax “repeat (2w)” however plugins have to be triggered manually on the page where the task lives. Also the options daily weekly monthly quarterly annually are restrictive. No option I could find to repeat indefinitely. Repeating tasks have to be set for a period (the restriction of using a daily note system) ie repeat monthly for 6 months or annually for 7 years. I also have a similar situation with admin tasks, run server review, process bank statements etc. I have a lot of repeating single action tasks for clients, issue domain renewal, issue hosting invoice, send catch up letter etc. Now i can see that in relation to projects, its flexible just use a single project note or a folder with backlinked notes all integrated with tasks, a great idea and one with the limited run i gave it appeared to work well. Now to what Noteplan says are not second class citizens, tasks. It integrates with Calendar apps (as do many programs ) and it can also show reminders, so far so good. Here after less than a week are my superficial thoughts.Īs a note taker it’s really good, markdown renders as you type its themeable and the daily notes concept appealed and was something I could see myself adopting. I just ran a trial in Noteplan which i really liked the concept of, and instead of doing my usual feet first all in approach i read the blog, watched some videos. |
